The DOT Urine Specimen Collector Training — 2026 Edition provides comprehensive training in the procedures and responsibilities associated with conducting urine specimen collections for U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) workplace drug-testing programs.
This course is based on 49 CFR Part 40 and the DOT Urine Specimen Collection Procedures Guidelines, revised June 2026, and is designed to help learners develop the knowledge required to properly conduct and document DOT urine specimen collections.
Throughout the course, learners will examine the collector’s role and qualification requirements, collection-site security and integrity, Federal Drug Testing Custody and Control Form (CCF) procedures, employee identification, specimen collection procedures, insufficient specimens, directly observed and monitored collections, refusals and unusual collections, collection errors, specimen packaging and shipment, recordkeeping, and collector qualification documentation.
The course also addresses the initial proficiency demonstration required under 49 CFR §40.33, including the five consecutive error-free mock collections required as part of initial collector qualification.

Completion of the AHTI instructional course alone does not constitute completion of all requirements for initial qualification as a DOT urine specimen collector.
Under 49 CFR § 40.33, initial qualification includes successful completion of the required proficiency demonstration consisting of five consecutive error-free mock collections.
Learners should retain documentation of both their qualification training and required proficiency demonstrations.
AHTI provides certificates and documentation reflecting the specific training and proficiency components successfully completed by the learner.
